A Prayer for Competitive Cubicles

GRACIOUS DESIGNER AND THE SOURCE OF ALL GOOD,

You take nothingness, subdue its proclivities, and make it fruitful for the nations. The Good willingly flows from your open hand.

As new beginnings confront us this week, we acknowledge our dependence upon you and yearning for you, as Your image-bearers.

We cannot tackle brokenness on our own. We cannot break the hip of competitive angling without your touch. The day will not break.

Any inches or crumbs of taking, subduing, and making fruitful invokes reference to Your stamp upon our hearts (and heads, and hands).

We do thank you for making us care about bringing forth things other than ourselves. For otherness, novelty, development, and perfection.

But grant us the insight, prudence, fortitude, and strength that is necessary for this kingly role. Equip us, and help us execute in a timely manner.

When the resistance to flourishment and advancement comes, because of our own sin, our neighbor’s evil, or the Devil’s hold,

Infuse, Holy Spirit, Yourself into us. May your fruits be manifested in us as we take things and attempt to multiply them like loaves.

Hover over us as we begin another week. Take the chaos and give it a home. Subdue the darkness and channel it. Make our faces fruitful.

May our pens be pillars for your kingdom and our staplers stick the Tree of Life to the corkboard of our lives.

Amen.
