A Prayer for the Cubicle or Work Station

TRIUNE GOD, ORIGINATOR OF TIME,

Every moment, every situation, every assemblage, every convention has been divinely orchestrated by you. No contact is without a pull.

We return to work after vacation, summer break, or weekend escapades. We confess our anticipations are dragging their feet. We lean to the past.

Because we wonder: What is Ordinary Time that you are fond of it? What is the beginning of school that you care for it?  Why do this again, anyway?

Lord, every moment is worth saving to You. Every reunion has a persuasive glimmer. Every regathering has an unprecedented inclusion.

Teach us the patterns of Eternity. Grant us the pause necessary to capture significance. Disabuse us of fake novelty.

Father, the Source of All, help us to greet new beginnings with a holy kiss. Give us understanding to see why we have to deal with difficult coworkers.

Son, our Savior, convert our eyes to see the beauty of downtime and the purpose of repetition. Redeem our conference calls and heal our email exchanges.

Holy Spirit, our Renewer, take captive our cubicles and baptize them with a sense of purpose and determination. Anoint our transient work stations.

May we commit ourselves to the duties of this week. It’s exigencies. It’s “accidents.” It’s wayward, unexpected, and frustrating turns.

May we serve you in these unwanted and unwarranted moments, and may we honor and glorify you as we point others to The Future.
